Date set for Leeds United vs Man Utd pre-season clash at whopping 82k venue

Leeds United will face another Premier League rival following their USA tour.

Leeds United will return to Dublin for a second consecutive summer - this time facing Premier League rivals Manchester United in a pre-season friendly.

Daniel Farke’s side faced AC Milan at the Aviva Stadium last year, playing out a 1-1 draw in front of tens of thousands of Leeds fans. The occasion was a huge success as supporters from across Ireland travelled to Dublin, with many others flying over from the UK and Europe.

On Tuesday, The Irish Independent reported on Leeds’ return to the Irish capital, with this summer’s pre-season friendly opponents much closer to home. The Whites will face Manchester United at Croke Park on Wednesday, August 12. The YEP understands that report to be accurate, with all parties close to an agreement on the final details.

Croke Park has not hosted a football match since 2009 and is the home of Gaelic football, also known as GAA. Both Leeds and Manchester United boast huge Irish followings with the whopping 82,300-capacity venue set to look less one-sided than the Aviva Stadium did last year.

A trip to Dublin will follow Leeds’ pre-season tour of the USA which is due to take place in late July/early August. Farke’s squad will be based on the East Coast with fixtures planned against Wrexham, Sunderland and Liverpool - all of which could be Premier League teams with the former chasing a Championship play-off place.

Leeds take on Wrexham at the Raymond James Stadium in Tampa on Saturday July 25 before travelling to the Sports Illustrated Stadium in New Jersey to face Sunderland on Thursday July 30. They finish in Chicago against Liverpool on Sunday August 2.

Tickets for all three matches are currently on sale. Leeds are yet to announce their Dublin friendly but will likely provide ticket details alongside confirmation, if and when it arrives.
