How the national media reacted to Elliot Anderson's display for England vs Japan

Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson was in action for England last night.

Elliot Anderson started in Thomas Tuchel’s midfield next to Kobbie Mainoo and played the full 90 minutes in the 1-0 defeat at Wembley Stadium.

The Nottingham Forest star, who only made his Three Lions debut last September, collected his seventh cap.

Anderson produced a solid performance for England last night and certainly strengthened his chances of starting at the World Cup.

Here’s what the BBC had to say.

7/10 – “A certain starter at the World Cup. Assured in midfield, provided a drive to England’s play and tried to make things happen. One of the better performers on the night and clipped the crossbar with a good effort.”

Daily Mail added.

7/10 – “Easily the pick of a poor England. Played balls between lines but team-mates made little of them. One player Tuchel should not worry about.”

He’s playing so well at the moment…😍

The Standard stated.

7/10 – “Looked England’s most experienced general on the night, despite this being only his seventh cap.”

Telegraph also said.

6/10 – “Was the only player to emerge from the first half with credit. He kept passing the ball forwards and also hit the bar with a curler from the edge of the area.”

Former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson also heaped praise on the Forest talisman.

“I thought he was outstanding, both defensively and offensively,” Robinson explained on the Football Daily podcast.

“I think he’s continued his club form and the way that he’s developed as a player this season. He could well become a key part of Thomas Tuchel’s plans for the summer alongside Declan Rice.”
