Liverpool handed fresh injury blow ahead of Manchester City FA Cup clash as star picks up knock on international duty: Reports

Liverpool right-back Jeremy Frimpong reportedly suffered an injury in the Netherlands' 1-1 friendly draw with Ecuador on Tuesday (March 31) at the Phillips Stadium in Amsterdam.

Having not featured in the 2-1 friendly win over Norway in Amsterdam on Friday, Frimpong came on as a half-time substitute for his Reds teammate Cody Gakpo but went off after just 13 minutes, as per GOAL (via Dutch Football).

Frimpong, 25, has had an injury-plagued campaign for Arne Slot's side, missing 19 games across multiple spells due to a hamstring injury. While details about his latest setback are awaited, the Dutchman's availability for the FA Cup quarter-final at Manchester City on Saturday (April 4) appear doubtful.

With Conor Bradley suffering a season-ending knee injury in the goalless Premier League draw with leaders Arsenal in January, Slot might be forced into a rejig in the right side of his defence for the clash at the Etihad this weekend.

Overall, Frimpong has contributed two goals and as many assists in 26 games across competitions for the Reds this season. Both assists have come in the Premier League, where Slot's side's title defence is nearly over, trailing runaway leaders Arsenal (70) by 21 points with seven games left.

Following the FA Cup quarter-final with Manchester City at the weekend, Liverpool turn their attention to the UEFA Champions League, where they travel to holders Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday (April 8) for the Round of 16 first leg.

The two sides' latest clash came in the European club competition's Round of 16 last season. Following a 1-0 first-leg win in Paris, Arne Slot's side lost by the same margin at home before going on to lose the tie on penalties to bow out.

Ousmane Dembele scored the game's only goal in regulation time, in the 12th minute. The 2025 Ballon d'Or winner also scored in the ensuing shootout, along with three of his teammates, while the Reds saw Darwin Nunez and Curtis Jones miss in a 4-1 shootout defeat.
