Former Liverpool hero Robbie Fowler believes that Mohamed Salah’s exit announcement could push the club to end the 2025/26 campaign on a high.

In news that made headlines in Premier League media last week, Salah announced that he would be leaving the club at the end of the season.

With two Premier League titles to his name, including a UEFA Champions League crown, Salah will leave Merseyside as a legend of his era given his consistent exploits since joining the team in June 2017.

Amid his pending departure, Fowler believes Liverpool now have a unique opportunity to give Salah a well-deserved send-off that could spur players to end the season on a high.

“I wasn’t shocked, but I was gutted, of course,” Fowler told Liverpool.com.

“I think he’s a player who has been extraordinary for Liverpool. I think Mo is certainly up there as one of the top two in the Premier League era of Liverpool.

“So I think when you’ve got a player like that and he suddenly comes out with this announcement, then I think it’s a big shock.

“We’re all sad, but I think we’re all realists in terms of there was going to be a point that it was going to happen.

“But I think some ways, in a real positive way for the club, I think it gives everyone a little bit of a chance to help Mo go out on a high because he deserves to, for what he’s done, for what he’s achieved, for the numbers he’s put in for this football club.”
