Wolves star left covered in blood and needing stitches after nasty international incident

Wolves

Wolves defender David Møller Wolfe suffered a nasty injury blow in Norway’s goalless draw against Switzerland on Tuesday.

Ståle Solbakken didn’t include the Wolves player in his starting lineup in the latest friendly and brought him on in the 63rd minute.

The left-back came on to replace Manchester City striker Erling Haaland but had to leave the pitch after 12 minutes. Bologna’s Torbjørn Heggem replaced the 23-year-old.

Wolfe was at the receiving end of an elbow under his eye and was visibly in pain.

Drama around Wolves player

Dagbladet say there was an injury drama involving David Møller Wolfe on the pitch that majority of fans at the Ullevaal Stadion didn’t notice.

The Wolves fullback received four stitches to stop the blood flow. As soon as he went down, his teammates surrounded him and Benfica forward Andreas Schjelderup quickly signalled to Norway doctor Ola Sand.

Wolfe reveals panicking after seeing Schjelderup’s immediate reaction to his injury. The newspaper has relayed his comments.

“My teammates who came over reacted, and that’s when I panicked, I won’t lie about that. Schjelderup came over to me and shouted ‘Ola’, and that’s when I panicked,” he said.

Schjelderup unintentionally made it worse for the Wolves man, while Brentford’s Kristoffer Ajer calmed things down.

After the match, Dagbladet caught up with the Benfica player to get his reaction to this incident.

“He got mad at me; I overreacted a bit. Jørgen reacted strongly, and I jumped on him,” Schjelderup explained.

“I see a lot of blood and a cut under his eye, and I think, what the… yeah, those words.”

When asked what reaction of his scared Wolfe, he added: “He didn’t know how bad it was but just felt the blood running. Next time, maybe I should calm him down and not overreact and scare him even more; I realise he’s annoyed.”

Concern for Wolves

David Møller Wolfe’s damage would be a concern for Rob Edwards and the Premier League side.

Wolves are likely to carry out tests to find out whether he needs to spend time away from the pitch.

The Norway international Premier League stats this season are as follows:

Appearances: 18

Starts: 9

Total minutes: 856

Minutes per game: 48

AS Roma tried to take him away from Molineux in the winter market but weren’t ready to meet Wolves’ demand. Other clubs may come forward to sign the player in the summer if he isn’t keen on playing in the Championship.
