Update on fitness of Leeds United star issued after surprise international absence

The reason for Leeds United winger Noah Okafor’s absence in Switzlerland’s clash with Norway has been revealed by the Swiss FA.

The 25-year-old won the most recent of his 24 Switzerland caps back in 2024, having been frozen out of the picture for a period.

The wideman was an unused substitute as Switzerland lost 4-3 to Germany last week but was absent entirely for their goalless draw with Norway last night (March 31).

A statement was issued by the Swiss FA, confirming both Okafor and Sunderland star Granit Xhaka were withdrawn as a precautionary measure.

The statement, issued via social media platform X, read: “Granit Xhaka and Noah Okafor are not in today's squad.

“Both are returning from injury; it's a precautionary measure. The decision was made in consultation between the players and the coaching staff.”

Noah Okafor’s time at Leeds United

He entered the fray as a substitute after missing his side’s previous four league games due to a hamstring problem.

In total, Okafor has made 27 appearances for the Whites across all competitions since joining from AC Milan in the last summer transfer window. He has registered four goals, all of which have been scored in the Premier League.

International breaks are always nervy for clubs who are left to sweat on the fitness of their key players.

Leeds are due to return to action this weekend for an FA Cup quarter-final showdown with West Ham United. Having been without Okafor for four of their last five league games, the Whites will be keen to have the Swiss attacker available in the capital.
