Joy for Leeds United and Hull City stars plus milestone night for Barnsley man

THERE was World Cup joy for Leeds United wing-back Gabriel Gudmundsson and Hull City midfielder Amir Hadziametovic after helping Sweden and Bosnia and Herzegovina claim their tickets to this summer's global jamboree in North America.

Gudmundsson started Sweden's dramatic 3-2 play-off final victory over Poland in Stockholm.

Meanwhile, Hadziametovic was a late extra-time substitute in Bosnia's tense final against Italy in Zenica, which ended 1-1. The hosts triumphed 4-1 on penalties as the Azzurri, four-time world champions, failed to qualify for a third World Cup in a row.

It was also a significant night on the international stage for Barnsley midfielder Patrick Kelly, with the 21-year-old making his first senior appearance for Northern Ireland in their 1-1 friendly draw against Wales in Cardiff.
