Members News: Congrats Dom! See His Second Scottish Cap (In Liverpool)

Dom Hyam in the Sky Blue

He has had a while to wait to double his international tally of Full Caps but former Sky Blue favourite defender (and CCFPA member) Dom Hyam made good last night at the newish home of Everton FC. Reds. Sadly the game, in a pre World Club friendly between Scotland and the Ivory Coast/Cote d’Ivoire, was won 1-0 by the African team thanks to a 12th minute goal from Pépé. Nevertheless Dom, one of nine changes from their previous international, who played the whole match and had a good game, must have given the Scottish manager, Steve Clarke, food for thought as he weighs up options for his final squad for the Finals. Interestingly this was the second lone goal defeat in succession for the Scots who were beaten 1-0 by Japan in their previous game a score the Japanese repeated at Wembley against England also last night!

Sky Blue Dom

Dom currently plays for the Sky Blues Championship rivals Wrexham against whom the Sky Blues play their final home game of the season at the end of this month when hopefully Frank Lampard‘s men will already have secured the title! The ultra reliable central defender played 192 times for the Sky Blues (netting nine times) between May 2017 and August 2022 before signing for Blackburn Rovers. He had clocked up 135 games (scoring four goals) for Rovers before signing for the Welsh cln in August 2025.

Dominic Hyam (Scotland)

Born in Scotland, though raised in England, Dom had to wait until he was 27 to make his his full international debut (as a very late substitute) in a 2-1 win against Norway in Oslo on 17 June 2023. Now nearly 3 years after his first experience of international football Dom has earned his second cap and first start for Scotland -may there be many more!

Yesterday’s match was somewhat strange in that it was played in Liverpool at Everton‘s new Hill-Dickinson stadium yet counted as a ‘home’ fixture for the African nation and an ‘away’ fixture for the Scots who thankfully did not have to travel too far! Many of the Ivory Coast playing squad are based in Europe so it made sense to gather them together in England rather then ask them to travel to the southern coast of West Africa for the game.
