Liverpool handed€54m deal chance–Reds can even shave off a few million

Liverpool transfer target Gleison Bremer

Liverpool transfer target Gleison Bremer

Despite his injury problems, Gleison Bremer continues to be a very important player for Juventus. Liverpool have previously looked at the idea of signing the defender and they could have renewed hope of a transfer.

This season, the Brazilian has played 24 times in all competitions, featuring 19 times in Serie A. While he did miss over two months due to a knee injury, Bremer was key behind their six-game unbeaten run earlier this year.

The centre-back was also key for Brazil in a friendly against France last week, scoring in a 2-1 defeat.

Sport Witness have previously covered Tottenham interest in the defender. Now, Liverpool are being mentioned as a possible destination for him.

Bremer can leave Juventus

Tuttomercatoweb report that Luciano Spalletti sees the defender as an unsellable part of his side. However, that view isn’t matched by the Bianconeri management, who can potentially consider his sale.

As of now, the 29-year-old has a contract that runs out in 2029. Curiously, it has a release clause worth €54m and this is likely to be attractive to many clubs.

Liverpool considered triggering that in the summer, according to the claims, and Bremer still appeals to multiple clubs in the Premier League. Things are likely to be a bit different from how things were last year as Juve can accept a fee that is slightly less than €54m.

This is likely to give renewed hope to the Reds about a move for Bremer, with the Bianconeri unlikely to hand him a new deal.

If suitable offers arrive, the Turin club are likely to accept them.

Our take: Liverpool move could be risky

Arne Slot’s side could need a new centre-back in the summer, especially considering Ibrahima Konate’s contract situation.

A younger Bremer would have been perfect for Liverpool but now, things are very different. The Brazilian has had multiple knee and muscle injuries over the past couple of seasons. There have been long-term and short-term problems that have derailed his progress in Turin.

Bremer’s qualities aren’t in question as he always makes an impact when he plays for the Bianconeri. But the centre-back is approaching 30 and the Merseyside club should ideally sign a cheaper replacement for Konate.
