Víctor Muñoz
Real Madrid could ruin Sunderland transfer plans to sign Víctor Muñoz this summer, as they intend to take him back to the Santiago Bernabeu.
Estadio Deportivo report on the winger today, with information from Cadena SER. According to their information, Real Madrid have decided to bring him back so that they are in control of his future.
Breakout season
Víctor Muñoz has been making a big impression at Osasuna this season in his breakthrough campaign in La Liga. On Tuesday, he got 45 minutes for Spain against Egypt, coming on for Lamine Yamal.
He joined the Spanish side for €5m in the summer and has since racked up six goals and five assists in 31 games. His outstanding performances have also earned him a call up to the Spain squad. He took advantage of that by scoring against Serbia.
Now Real Madrid want him back and they have an ace up their sleeve in that regard. As part of the deal for him last summer, they negotiated a buyback clause worth €8m.
That figure now seems like a bargain given his development, with Transfermarkt rating him at €20m. His current deal at Osasuna also includes a €40m release clause.
Thus, Real Madrid intend to bring Muñoz back in the summer and use him in pre-season. That doesn’t guarantee he’ll play for them in future, but it means they can control his destiny.
Bad news for Sunderland
That could ruin Sunderland’s plans for the 22-year-old. They made multiple attempts to sign him in the January transfer window but were short of what Osasuna wanted.
It’s since been explained that they needed to improve their offer by at least €15m if they wanted him this summer. Now Real Madrid are planning to muscle in on the matter.
They will be much harder for Sunderland to deal with than Osasuna, to say the least. In fact, they can sit and hold out for as much as they want, while Osasuna would have likely been willing to negotiate.
It’s something that will develop over the coming weeks. But Real Madrid have made the decision to bring Víctor Muñoz back this summer. That already makes him more difficult to sign.
Sunderland may still have a chance, but Real Madrid would hold the power.
