‘Open to negotiations’ – Newcastle United and Crystal Palace invited to return for transfer

Crystal Palace and Newcastle United transfer target Ousmane Diomande

Crystal Palace and Newcastle United transfer target Ousmane Diomande

Newcastle United and Crystal Palace have been tracking Ousmane Diomande for some time, and the defender’s performances this season only reinforce why both clubs remain attentive to a transfer.

At 22, Diomande has established himself as a key figure for Sporting CP. He has played regularly across domestic and European competitions, already surpassing 40 appearances this season. He averages over 2 clearances and close to 1 interception per game, while also maintaining a strong aerial presence.

In addition, his passing accuracy sits comfortably above 85%, highlighting his ability to build from the back. That profile – physical, composed and reliable in possession – fits the modern Premier League centre-back mould.

Those performances have not gone unnoticed. His market value has risen steadily, and interest from England has remained consistent over the past year. During the January window, both Crystal Palace and Newcastle United remained in the transfer picture, and it looks like their stance is not changing.

Now, there is a clearer indication of how a transfer could actually happen.

A BOLA report: Sporting open to transfer offers

According to Portuguese newspaper A BOLA, Sporting are ready to negotiate Ousmane Diomande’s departure this summer if the right proposal arrives.

The defender is currently valued at around €45m (£39m) by Transfermarkt. Crucially, the club are open to discussing offers in that range, despite his €80m (£69m) release clause. That price range has been suggested before.

That stance effectively invites interested clubs to return with concrete bids.

For Newcastle and Crystal Palace, this is a significant development. Both sides have monitored Diomande closely, and now have a defined price bracket to work with.

Palace were the closest to signing him. The London club had a €55m (£47m) proposal in mind last summer but did not complete the move. That amount could be enough if it’s presented in the summer window.

Newcastle, meanwhile, have maintained long-term interest. With strong financial backing, they are well placed to act if they decide to prioritise a centre-back addition.

Crystal Palace and Newcastle transfer chances

Ousmane Diomande is expected to be included in Ivory Coast’s squad for the upcoming World Cup. That tournament could further elevate his profile.

Sporting are aware of the timing. Portuguese clubs often look to maximise value through major international competitions, and Diomande fits that strategy.

His rise has already been notable. Sporting signed him in January 2023 from FC Midtjylland for €7.5m (£6.4m), with bonuses taking the total fee to around €14.5m (£12.4m).

Since then, he has developed into one of the most reliable defenders in the league. His combination of strength, recovery speed and composure has made him a standout performer.

For Newcastle United and Crystal Palace, the message is clear. The player is performing, the valuation is defined, and Sporting are ‘open to negotiations’.

The opportunity is there again – this time with fewer unknowns around the deal.
