Slot: Alexander Isak return confirmed & Frimpong injury “precaution” – Latest Liverpool FC News

It has been a case of one in one out for Arne Slot in the last 24 hours, with Jeremie Frimpong suffering injury but Alexander Isak returning to full training.

Alexander Isak return confirmed by Arne Slot

It has been a long road to recovery for Isak, who fractured his fibula while scoring against Tottenham in December.

Thankfully, he is almost ready to return, with Slot confirming that he will rejoin full team training on Thursday.

“He’s going to train with the group again for the first time tomorrow,” Slot told Liverpoolfc.com on Wednesday.

“If you’ve worked so hard for three, four months or something like that and then to return to team training, that’s for everyone very nice. So Alex is, in that sense, in a good place.

“Of course it’s only his first session, after three or four months [out], with the team but it’s good to have him back because we all know who we signed and we’ve signed an incredible striker.”

Don’t expect Isak to come back firing instantly – we have seen that he can take time to regain fitness – but having an extra striker on hand will be very useful in the busy upcoming weeks.

Liverpool FC: On this day

Liverpool won their first-ever League Cup in 1981, beating West Ham 2-1 at Villa Park – they have since won a record 10.

It was, in fact, the second time the game had been played as it ended in a 1-1 draw at Wembley a few weeks earlier. Can you imagine having to restage a final these days? No chance.

West Ham had scored first, but Kenny Dalglish equalised with a sumptuous volley, with Alan Hansen the unlikely match-winner with a kind deflection.

As LFC History notes, this was actually the first time that the winners received medals, rather than tankards!
