Arne Slot has confirmed when Alexander Isak will return to team training.
It has been a long and frustrating wait, but the end of Alexander Isak’s injury nightmare is finally in sight.
Liverpool’s record signing has been sidelined since December 20th, when a tackle from Micky van de Ven caused a broken fibula just as he was in the process of scoring against Tottenham.
It was a cruel blow that robbed Slot of his marquee £125 million striker at exactly the point he was beginning to find his feet at Anfield. The 26-year-old subsequently underwent surgery and has spent the best part of four months working his way back to fitness away from the first-team group.
But speaking to liverpoolfc.com, Slot has stated the Swedish striker will be training with the main group again on Thursday:
“I think Alex is in a really good place because Sweden qualified for the World Cup yesterday evening and apart from that he’s going to train with the group again for the first time tomorrow.”
“If you’ve worked so hard for three, four months or something like that and then to return to team training, that’s for everyone very nice. So Alex is, in that sense, in a good place.”
“Of course it’s only his first session, after three or four months [out], with the team but it’s good to have him back because we all know who we signed and we’ve signed an incredible striker.”
“So to have him again in a team that’s usually generating quite a lot chances – and maybe not immediately from the first moment that he can start – but to have him back for the last two months is, I think, very helpful for us.”
In even more positive news for Isak, Sweden secured their place at the 2026 World Cup in stunning fashion last night – beating Poland 3-2 in Stockholm in the playoff final, with Viktor Gyokeres bagging a late winner.
While Isak could only watch from home as his nation booked their spot at this summer’s tournament, the news will have given him extra motivation to get back firing between now and the end of the season.
