Arne Slot explains his plan for 'incredible' Alexander Isak after confirming Liverpool return

Alexander will return to Liverpool training on Thursday, as Arne Slot has just confirmed.

After breaking his leg back in December while scoring against Spurs, the Swede is finally set to return to full training ahead of the Man City game.

This was thought to be the plan, with some sources suggesting Isak could play against Man City. Now, Slot has confirmed the news, and went on to explain how he plans to reintegrate the £125 million star. As you would expect, Liverpool are going to take the cautious approach.

With two months of intense competition ahead, he’s glad to have Isak at his disposal once again, and won’t want to risk undoing the months of recovery.

Arne Slot says Alexander Isak is doing really well but won’t be rushed back

Slot spoke to Liverpoolfc.com at the AXA Training Centre on Wednesday afternoon to provide an update on the returning striker.

He said: “I think Alex is in a really good place because Sweden qualified for the World Cup yesterday evening and apart from that he’s going to train with the group again for the first time tomorrow.

“If you’ve worked so hard for three, four months or something like that and then to return to team training, that’s for everyone very nice. So Alex is, in that sense, in a good place.”

Great to hear that, especially with a grueling Champions League quarter-final against PSG on the horizon.

One thing Slot made clear, though, was that he won’t be throwing Isak into the deep end.

He went on to say: “Of course it’s only his first session, after three or four months [out], with the team, but it’s good to have him back because we all know who we signed and we’ve signed an incredible striker.

“So to have him again in a team that’s usually generating quite a lot of chances – and maybe not immediately from the first moment that he can start – but to have him back for the last two months is, I think, very helpful for us.”

Nobody is expecting Isak to start at the weekend, but he could make an impact off the bench. With the Premier League’s best striker Erling Haaland sure to be on the pitch, a contribution from Isak would be the perfect way to announce his return.
