Liverpool face Manchester City in the FA Cup quarter-finals on Easter Saturday. The Reds have been without Alexander Isak since he broke his leg against Tottenham in December.

In his absence, Hugo Ekitike has led the line, scoring 16 goals in his debut season. Isak has been steadily progressing in his recovery and is pictured recently training with a ball.

He did not join up with Sweden for their World Cup play-off matches, where his country secured qualification with a late win over Poland. Mohamed Salah and Isak are both set to return to team training ahead of the clash with Man City.

Liverpool were dealt a blow earlier Wednesday when right-back Jeremie Frimpong suffered another injury setback while on duty with the Netherlands.

First-choice goalkeeper Alisson remains sidelined after withdrawing from the Brazil squad due to injury, and Federico Chiesa returned early from Italy’s camp with a separate issue, though details of their injuries have not been disclosed.

There is positive news for Liverpool FC Women’s head coach Gareth Taylor, as Zara Shaw marked another step in her recovery with an appearance for the U21 side.

Shaw featured for the opening 45 minutes against Sheffield United in Kirkby on Wednesday afternoon. This appearance marked Shaw’s return to the pitch nearly a year after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury while representing England U19s.

It is the second ACL injury the 18-year-old has endured, having first sustained one in August 2023, before returning to fitness at the end of last season. “Football truly is the biggest rollercoaster,” Shaw said back in April last year. “It hurts right now and doesn’t seem fair, but I have done it once and I will do it again.”

The midfielder has progressed through Liverpool’s academy, signing her first professional contract last August. She has made nine appearances for the senior team so far, scoring once.
