Liverpool manager Arne Slot hopes Mohamed Salah can enhance his legendary status at the club by inspiring a strong finish to the season.
MANAGER Arne Slot has declared Mohamed Salah a living “legend” at Liverpool and hopes the Egyptian’s farewell can inspire a strong end to the season. Salah announced last week he will depart the English champions after nine years and 255 goals.
The 33-year-old had a public spat with Slot in December after being dropped. He has since returned as a regular starter in a difficult campaign where Liverpool sit fifth in the Premier League.
Slot’s men are battling for Champions League qualification. They also face crucial FA Cup and Champions League knockout ties in the coming weeks.
“Hopefully he can make his legacy even more special in the upcoming weeks and months where we still play for something special, but he will always leave this club as a legend,” Slot told Liverpool’s website. He praised Salah’s “hunger every three days” and “professionalism”.
Slot’s forward options have been hampered by Alexander Isak’s long-term absence. The Swedish striker, a British record RM660 million signing, is set to return to training after a broken leg.
“I think Alex is in a really good place because Sweden qualified for the World Cup yesterday evening,” Slot added. “It’s good to have him back because we all know who we signed and we’ve signed an incredible striker.”
Liverpool travel to Manchester City in the FA Cup quarter-finals on Saturday. They also face Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League last eight.
