Newcastle United news: An official FA document has confirmed a previously unannounced contract update for a Newcastle United star.
Jacob Murphy agreed an improved contract at Newcastle United on the back of an excellent 2024/25 campaign, an FA document has confirmed.
Last year, Murphy switched agencies before agreeing a new deal at St James’ Park. His most recently announced deal, agreed in 2021, was set to expire in June 2027.
Club sources claim that Murphy’s ‘updated contract’ is not an extension of his 2027 deal. The Gazette understands Murphy’s contract was improved last July, on the back of a strong performance during the 2024/25 campaign.
In 2025, Jacob Murphy signed with agency Wasserman after leaving New Era Global Sports, the agency that helped complete the winger’s £12million move from Norwich City to his boyhood club Newcastle in 2017.

The 31-year-old has since made 256 appearances for the Magpies as the club’s longest-serving player, scoring 25 goals.
The highlight of Murphy’s time at Newcastle so far came last season as he contributed nine goals and 14 assists, forming a formidable partnership with the now departed Alexander Isak. His form was rewarded with an improved deal that remained unannounced by Newcastle, but has since been published in an official FA document.
Other senior Newcastle players listed as having updated contracts over the same period were Emil Krafth, Fabian Schar, Dan Burn, John Ruddy and Sven Botman.
Except for Ruddy and Murphy, those listed deals were announced individually in official club statements.
But it would not be the first time a Newcastle contract update has gone unannounced. Deals concerning Kieran Trippier, Sandro Tonali and Nick Pope all previously went under the radar without an official statement from the club.
Club sources claiming the changes to Murphy’s contract were not an extension give some insight as to why they didn’t announce it at the time.
Eddie Howe on Jacob Murphy
Murphy recently captained Newcastle during a 1-0 win at Chelsea last month. After the match, head coach Eddie Howe said: “He's been magnificent since my time here. I can't speak highly enough of him on and off the pitch. Just selfless, wants to help the team. He's also a very, very good player. Very underrated in my opinion.
“He was elected as part of the leadership group by the players themselves, and I think that's the biggest accolade you can get. With all the other guys missing, it was his turn to lead the team, and that'll be a magical moment for him being a Newcastle fan as a child. I'm delighted for him.”
