'Think differently' - Villa's England star hails Unai Emery's impact

Defender says club boss has changed the way he sees the game.

Ezri Konsa has saluted Villa boss Unai Emery as the best thing to happen to his career.

The centre-back is on course to be part of England’s squad at this summer’s World Cup, having played a key role in Villa’s rise under Emery over the past three-and-a-half years.

Konsa explained how the Spanish boss has taught him to view football “differently” to the way he did before.

He told the official Villa podcast: “I have learned a lot of things, things I thought I already new but really didn’t.

“(I’m an) International player now, and since he’s come in, I’ve been able to change my game, adapt to the style that he’s wanted me to play, and I’ve really grown as a player.

“I’ve enjoyed every moment, enjoyed learning, enjoyed training, coming into training and trying to do something new.”

Villa are chasing success in both the Premier League and Europe over the final two months of the season.

Emery’s men return to action when they travel to Bologna for the first leg of a Europa League quarter-final next Thursday.

Konsa continued: “I think he (Emery) has been great, not just for me, but for the whole squad.

“We’ve got a lot more international players now, and that’s credit to him and his coaching staff, and what they’ve been able to achieve over the last three years at this amazing club.

“We are trying to go a step further this season, and where we are now just goes to show the work that he’s done has paid off.”
