Newcastle United in mix to sign versatile Real Madrid player – Defensive squad boost

Newcastle United are among the clubs in the picture to sign Real Madrid’s Diego Aguado in the summer.

The Premier League side have added a few young talents to their squad in recent years.

Last summer, Newcastle United signed Antonio Cordero, also known as Antoñito and Park Seung-soo. The former joined on a free transfer while Park arrived from South Korean side Suwon Samsung Bluewings.

Earlier this week, Ecuador manager Sebastián Beccacece said Newcastle United have a young unnamed Ecuadorian on their radar.

The Magpies could again look at Spain and more specifically Real Madrid, for Aguado. He is a product of Los Blancos’ academy and Carlo Ancelotti handed him his first team debut last season.

Last month, Álvaro Arbeloa gave him his second senior appearance in Real Madrid’s 4-1 win over Elche CF. He came on in the second half to replace Antonio Rüdiger.

Newcastle United chasing defender

AS have a report on nine Real Madrid youngsters and their futures beyond this season. This includes Diego Aguado, who is on Newcastle United’s agenda.

He’s comfortable operating both as a central defender and a left-back. The 19-year-old’s versatility and skills are attracting attention from Eddie Howe’s side, AC Milan, Parma and several La Liga sides.

Borussia Dortmund already tried signing him for €6m in 2025. The report doesn’t mention why he didn’t leave then, while his future beyond this season still needs sorting.

The end of this season will determine his next step and for now, ‘all options are open’. In other words, he could continue at Real Madrid or move elsewhere in the summer.

The La Liga giants, for their part, will wait until May to decide the next course of action for the Spain U20 international’s future.

Therefore, Newcastle United and other clubs have to wait for a few more weeks to find out Real Madrid’s final decision.
