Steven Gerrard has said that it’s a "dream" to manage Liverpool – but also admitted he’s not ready to take the role on a long-term basis yet. The Reds legend has, though, offered to help the club in any way he can.
Gerrard is currently without a job after leaving Saudi side Al-Ettifaq back in January. He has previously taken charge of Aston Villa and Rangers, after starting his coaching career with Liverpool’s youth sides.
When asked if there was a possibility of him not going back into coaching, he told The Overlap: “I’m ok with that, I enjoy covering some of the games. I enjoy having quite a bit of free time, probably the best part I’ve had from a family point of view in ever really, in terms of being there, being present.
"Lio [Gerrard's youngest son] is eight now. During his career, I’ve been in Scotland, in Birmingham, so yeah, really enjoying the family side of it and having a load of free time, but also I’m conscious that I want to stay busy enough.”

Having spent the majority of his career as a player with Liverpool, Gerrard has outlined his stance on returning to the club in a coaching role. He repeated an offer sent to manager Arne Slot last week.
“I’ve got a brilliant connection with the club, I always have. Probably a stronger connection since I left, they’ve always been unbelievable.
“Any help or area I could help the club in, obviously, I’d try and do it if I could. But I suppose what you want to know is, do I want to manage Liverpool at some point in my life?
“Of course, that would be a dream, but I think, would I be ready for it right now, to take it over a long period of time, probably not. But is there a possibility in the future to be alongside someone, them elite managers that you talk about.”
When asked if he would be an assistant to someone at Liverpool, he said: “It depends who it is, how the conversation goes, and does he need me? What does he think I can offer?”

He was then asked if not being in charge would frustrate him. He answered: “You’d have to understand it before you sign up to it, what the role is, and it’s to support the manager, it’s to be that assistant.
“I would do it for Liverpool Football Club if I was asked and they felt that I was the right man to do it, I’d be up for it, of course.”
Gerrard returned to Liverpool this weekend, featuring in a Liverpool Legends charity match against Borussia Dortmund at Anfield, where he was managed by Kenny Dalglish and Jurgen Klopp.
The game ended 2-2 with Thiago Alcantara and Jay Spearing scoring for Liverpool.
