Where are they now: The Wolves League One goalscoring promotion trio

It is 14 years since Wolves were last relegated from the Premier League.

They finished bottom of the table in 2012 - before going on to suffer another relegation the season after to League One.

It is unlikely, with the changing football landscape, that they will do that again.

Back then, they bounced straight back to the Championship at the first time of asking as they won the League One title.

And they did it in part thanks to three strikers.

They all shared the goals around and helped Wolves climb back to the Championship - and a few years later they were back in the top flight for a prolonged period.

But what happened to that goalscoring trio that fired Wolves to League One promotion and where are they now?

Bakary Sako

Sako was one of Wolves’ key signings following relegation to the Championship - as they shelled out £2.2m for the forward from Saint-Étienne.

But that first season was a disaster. He did net nine league goals, but Wolves suffered relegation.

The following season he chipped in with 12 goals, and finished second joint top scorer as Wolves roared back to the Championship.

The following season he added another 15 goals - but having been out of contract he departed for Crystal Palace.

He still sits 29th on the all time goalscoring list for Wolves with 38 goals.

After Palace, he had a short spell with rivals West Brom before heading back to Palace.

From there he has been on a bit of a journey that saw him head to Cyprus and Greece, before a move back to Saint-Étienne.

Since then two French moves have followed - to FC 93 and last year he signed for LB Châteauroux, where he is still playing aged 37.

Nouha Dicko

The French born Malian international arrived at Wolves initially on loan in that relegation season from the Championship.

But it was the following campaign where he made his mark.

Having become accustomed to English football after signing for Wigan and then going on loan to Blackpool and Rotherham, he scored 13 league goals after signing permanently for Wolves for a mere £300,000.

It looked like a snip at the end of the season after he fired Wolves back to the second tier.

That was to be the peak of his Wolves career - with injuries ruling him out for over 12 months, and the following three years seeing him hardly score.

He left for Hull City in 2017, before later moves took him to Turkey, Greece and then Paris FC in France.

At 33, he is still turning out in Saudi Arabia. In February this year, he signed for Pro League side Al Bataeh.

He is on the Wolves all time scorer list, sitting in 32nd with 35 goals.

Leigh Griffiths

The colourful character also chipped in with 12 goals that season for Wolves - having signed for Wolves for £150,000 in 2011.

Two seasons in the Premier League and one in the Championship saw Griffiths hardly make an appearance.

Instead he spent time out on loan at Hibernian where he scored 33 goals in 61 games.

That prompted Wolves to extend his contract in 2013 - and it was a wise move as Griffiths scored 12 times during their League One promotion season.

In the following January after promotion he was on the move - to SPL giants Celtic.

It was where he really made his name, as he netted 123 goals in 261 appearances.

From there he spent time at Falkirk, before in 2022 he made the move to semi-professional Australian side Mandurah City.

Another Australian move came to Stirling Macedonia in 2025 where he took on a coaching role against playing.

Last month he told the Scottish Sun that he hadn’t ruled out a potential return to Scotland.
