Steven Gerrard has revealed that managing Liverpool remains a "dream" of his – but conceded he isn't yet ready to take on the role on a permanent basis. The Anfield icon has, however, offered his services to the club in whatever capacity they see fit.
Gerrard is currently out of work, having departed Saudi outfit Al-Ettifaq back in January. He has previously managed Aston Villa and Rangers, following the start of his coaching career with Liverpool's academy sides.
After a few months out, Gerrard was quizzed on The Overlap by Gary Neville on whether he could see himself stepping away from coaching altogether. "I'm ok with that, I enjoy covering some of the games," he said.
"I enjoy having quite a bit of free time, probably the best part I've had from a family point of view in ever really, in terms of being there, being present.
"Lio [Gerrard's youngest son] is eight now. During his career, I've been in Scotland, in Birmingham, so yeah, really enjoying the family side of it and having a load of free time, but also I'm conscious that I want to stay busy enough."
Having spent the vast majority of his playing days at Liverpool, Gerrard has made clear his position on returning to the club in a coaching capacity, repeating an offer he made to manager Arne Slot just last week.
"I've got a brilliant connection with the club, I always have. Probably a stronger connection since I left, they've always been unbelievable," he said.
"Any help or area I could help the club in, obviously, I'd try and do it if I could. But I suppose what you want to know is, do I want to manage Liverpool at some point in my life?"
"Of course, that would be a dream, but I think, would I be ready for it right now, to take it over a long period of time, probably not. But is there a possibility in the future to be alongside someone, them elite managers that you talk about."

When asked about whether he would consider taking on an assistant's role at Liverpool, he replied: "It depends who it [the manager] is, how the conversation goes, and does he need me? What does he think I can offer?"
He was then pressed on whether working under another manager would leave him feeling frustrated. He responded: "You'd have to understand it before you sign up to it, what the role is, and it's to support the manager, it's to be that assistant."
"I would do it for Liverpool Football Club if I was asked and they felt that I was the right man to do it, I'd be up for it, of course."
Gerrard made his return to Anfield this weekend, lining up in a Liverpool legends charity fixture against Borussia Dortmund, where he played under the guidance of Kenny Dalglish and Jurgen Klopp. The match finished 2-2, with Thiago Alcantara and Jay Spearing netting for Liverpool.
