Borussia Dortmund were reportedly close to finalising a contract extension with Nico Schlotterbeck when Sebastian Kehl was sacked as sporting director and replaced by Ole Book.

The change has prompted fresh contract talks between the centre-back and Book, with Bild reporting that their first meeting took place on Wednesday.

According to the report, Schlotterbeck wants to renegotiate his previously agreed annual salary of up to €14 million.

At the same time, he is reportedly pushing for a €60 million release clause to be active this summer rather than 2027, keeping his options open for a potential move.

Manchester United and Liverpool are said to be among the clubs monitoring the German international.

According to Kicker, the Black and Yellows have not set a strict deadline for Schlotterbeck to make a decision, cautious about putting too much pressure on the defender, whose current deal runs until 2027.
