Marco Palestra
Marco Palestra
Marco Palestra is arguably the brightest talent in Serie A right now, as he enjoys a loan at Cagliari away from Atalanta, and he’s received interest from Liverpool and Bournemouth.
The full-back is likely to end up in England, with Bournemouth and Liverpool having made approaches already.
The youngster impressed on Tuesday in Italy’s loss to Bosnia, he was one of very bright sparks. The occasion turned dark for the Azzurri but it was a big sign that Palestra is on his way to becoming a star.
Sport Witness have previously looked at Liverpool’s interest in the talent. The Reds made an attempt to sign him from Atalanta last summer, before they ended up with Jeremie Frimpong.
Now, Palestra’s situation continues to attract more attention than ever. Gazzetta dello Sport take a detailed look at Bournemouth’s interest and wherehis future can lie.
Marco Palestra likely to end up in England
Gazzetta dello Sport explain the 20-year-old has exceeded all expectations during his ongoing loan at Cagliari. He’s played 29 times in Serie A, showing his versatility by playing at left wing-back and also on the right.
It is believed that before the move to Sardinia, Bournemouth came calling for Marco Palestra. Figures around the player though a move to England was too early at that point, leading to the loan to Cagliari.
His displays have now attracted major interest from Inter Milan, with Atalanta still keen on having him back in the squad next season.
All things considered though, Palestra is much likelier to play in the Premier League. His value has exceeded beyond what Italian clubs can afford.
La Dea want a ‘monstrous offer’ to sell him, having no intention to sell him for below €45m. This will be difficult for Inter, with Bournemouth and Liverpool possibly set to have another chance at a deal.
Besides, Palestra is represented by Alessandro Lucci, who also represents Riccardo Calafiori and Dejan Kulusevski. His experience of operating in England is one reason why the defender should end up in the Premier League.
Our take: Marco Palestra suits Premier League
The youngster’s strengths lie not just in his 1v1 ability but in his tendency to go up and down the pitch. Usefully, he can use both feet and this leaves defenders flummoxed when he takes them on. Marco Palestra has also grown quite a bit physically since his early days in Bergamo.
Everything suggests he suits Premier League football and would be an excellent signing for the likes of Bournemouth and Liverpool.
For the Reds, he can easily slot in on the left due to his versatility. The Cherries can also do with a starting right-back option and Palestra can fit in perfectly.
His valuation isn’t something that will cause problems to English clubs, who should keep a close eye on the player.
