Big West Ham arrival may be off within weeks – Vultures circling for transfer

West Ham

West Ham United’s transfer move for Taty Castellanos in January was meant to add a proven attacking option, but life in east London hasn’t quite taken off as expected.

The Argentine arrived with a solid reputation built at Lazio. However, his early months in England have been mixed. Minutes have been limited, and consistency has been hard to find as he adapts to the Premier League, even with three goals scored so far.

That backdrop has already sparked wider discussion. As covered earlier today, the Italian press used Castellanos’ transfer as an example of the growing financial gap between Serie A and the Premier League. From their perspective, the move itself reflected how English clubs can pick up established players with relative ease.

They even suggested the switch represented a step down in sporting terms, despite the financial advantages involved.

Now, that same transfer is starting to generate a different kind of noise.

Long-standing admiration resurfaces

Flamengo are once again looking closely at West Ham’s striker, and their interest isn’t new.

Back in February, we covered that Castellanos was internally appreciated at the club for a long time already. At the time, any move depended on very specific conditions, including West Ham’s league status and the player’s willingness to move. But things now appear to have shifted.

According to fresh reports from Bolavip in Brazil, Flamengo have resumed monitoring the situation and could consider a move in the next transfer window. The club are actively searching for a new striker and have identified the role as a priority.

Importantly, Castellanos’ name is expected to be presented to manager Leonardo Jardim for evaluation. His approval would be key before any formal approach is considered.

There is also a recent relationship between the clubs which could smooth any potential talks. Flamengo have already done business with West Ham for Lucas Paquetá, suggesting there is an open line of communication between the two sides.

The same applies in the opposite direction, with the Hammers previously linked to Flamengo forward Gonzalo Plata, further indicating a dialogue already exists between the clubs.

West Ham transfer situation opening up?

Taty Castellanos’ situation at West Ham United is still developing, but the lack of a strong foothold so far inevitably invites interest.

Flamengo’s stance now goes beyond a purely hypothetical scenario. The Brazilian side are planning ahead for the post-World Cup window, between July and September, and have budget set aside for a centre-forward.

Castellanos fits the profile they want. His time at Lazio showed his intensity, pressing ability and presence in the box. Those traits remain attractive, even if his Premier League spell has yet to fully click.

The key difference from earlier in the year is that relegation is no longer being positioned as a strict condition. Instead, this looks like a club keeping a close watch and waiting for the right opening.

What happens next

For West Ham, this remains a manageable situation for now. The focus will stay on integrating Castellanos and helping him adapt. However, external interest is clearly building, and Flamengo’s long-term admiration is not going away.

If his role in the squad does not grow significantly, the summer window could bring decisions. For Flamengo, this is about timing and opportunity.

For West Ham, it may soon become a question of whether a January signing turns into a short-term experiment. Relegation would surely make that likelier, with the Hammers currently in the drop zone.
