Leeds United may struggle to keep hold of some of their star players should they be relegated from the Premier League.

There would be no shortage of suitors for the likes of Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Gabriel Gudmundsson and Anton Stach, given how impressive the trio have been so far for United this season.

This is why Leeds must establish itself as a Premier League club, so players of this quality can remain at Elland Road as the Whites eventually aim to climb the table.

However, there continues to be interest regarding a long-standing member of Leeds’ current squad, and he is undoubtedly a player the 49ers will be keen to keep hold of this summer.

Aston Villa plotting bid for Pascal Struijk

Struijk, 26, has recently been the subject of transfer interest from Leeds’ Premier League rivals, with Aston Villa, Newcastle and Tottenham all reportedly holding an interest in the defender.

However, the latest report from TeamTalk suggests that Villa are particularly strong admirers of the Dutchman, with Unai Emery being prepared to undergo a pursuit in order to secure his services.

Villa are said to be plotting a £25million bid for Struijk, with Leeds valuing their ball-playing centre back in the region of £35-40million.

Leeds are said to be determined to keep Struijk at Elland Road; however, the defender’s contract expires next year, with preliminary conversations about a new deal having already taken place.

Leeds must do everything they can to keep Pascal Struijk

Struijk has been an integral part of United’s backline this season, with his cultured left foot being a valuable tool in helping Leeds build out from the back.

Data suggests Struijk has been exceptional for Leeds this season, with the defender averaging one interception and 1.1 tackles per game

Struijk partakes in 5.1 duels per game, winning 56% of them

He also averages 48.9 passes per game at an 88% completion rate (Sofascore)

Hopefully for Leeds’ sake, Struijk’s head does not get turned by this interest, and he can continue to be a part of Daniel Farke’s side next season.

If Leeds are relegated, however, they may be forced to sell, with it being unlikely that Struijk would commit the peak years of his career to Leeds with them sat in the Championship.

If the Whites do go down, it would be better to sell Struijk for a hefty fee to aid their rebuild as opposed to keeping him for a season and losing him on a free transfer.
