CM: Allegri a serious target for Italy – Milan’s stance after Real Madrid talk

Massimiliano Allegri is a man in demand: after the rumours about Real Madrid’s interest, Italy now want him as the national team coach.

A huge storm cloud is still very much sat over Italian football after the World Cup play-off defeat against Bosnia, which means many things could and probably should change for the federation, from top to bottom.

The resignation of president Gabriele Gravina is the first big move, while Gennaro Gattuso will no longer be the Azzurri’s head coach. Calciomercato.com report that Italy now want a top manager, one accustomed to winning under pressure.

Allegri wanted: Milan’s stance

Massimiliano Allegri is highly regarded within the Federation as a candidate for the ‘new project’, given his CV to this point and the fact he is regarded as such an effective man-manager. Allegri wouldn’t close his doors to the national team, they state.

Milan’s position on the matter future is also quite clear: they have the utmost trust and respect for the coach, so much so that initial discussions are already underway to plan their future together. He has a contract until 2027 with an option for another year.

Over the past month, Allegri’s name has been the most talked about. There were rumours about Real Madrid being keen on him a possible successor to Alvaro Arbeloa. Regardless of whether the rumor is true or not, it’s important to note that Max is very happy at Milan, as he has said publicly.

The only viable option would be to see if he or Antonio Conte were keen on a dual role, as national team and club coach. It is an unlikely hypothesis though, because Milan and Napoli would not welcome this type of scenario and they have contracts to protect them.
