Mac Allister absence explained, double training boost & Slot update – Latest LFC News

Alexander Isak and Jeremie Frimpong were both involved in Liverpool training on Thursday, but Alexis Mac Allister‘s absence from the session should cause little concern.

Alexis Mac Allister misses outdoor session – Isak and Frimpong train

The images of Isak and Frimpong taking part in Liverpool training for the first time since the international break was a big boost, but Mac Allister appeared to be a notable absentee from the outdoor session.

There is no cause for concern, though, as he was at the AXA and trained in the gym – his newly shaved head got plenty of rubs, hopefully that triggers some good luck.

The midfielder played in Argentina on Tuesday night (early Wednesday UK time), and after a long trip back to the UK, his absence from main training on Thursday is exactly what you’d expect.

Given the quick turnaround to the 12.45pm kickoff at City on Saturday, extended recovery for the No. 10 is normal practice ahead of an intense run of fixtures across three competitions.

Conor Bradley was in the gym on Thursday but remains sidelined, as are Alisson, Giovanni Leoni, Wataru Endo, Stefan Bajcetic and Jayden Danns.

It will be great to have Isak back, though. A goal at the Etihad off the bench would be nice!

LFC News: Arne Slot stance, Endo injury details and Gerrard open to assistant role

• The messaging behind **Arne Slot**‘s job security remains the same, with FSG described as remaining “steadfastly behind” their man, while “internal thinking” on Xabi Alonso is at odds with fans

• Wataru Endo has revealed rare details about his injury, explaining that a ligament in his ankle was ‘completely gone’, requiring surgery. His season is over, he’s only just started walking unassisted!

• Steven Gerrard has been speaking about his talks with Mo Salah over his exit, and an openness to return to Liverpool as an assistant – imagine him and Xabi

• Reports in Italy suggest Giovanni Leoni is pencilled in to return to team training by the end of April, still too soon for competitive games, but that would be a big boost for pre-season

• Sky Sports Germany report Leipzig would prefer to sell Yan Diomande in the summer of 2027 as they prepare a new contract. It would be beneficial for him to get more experience, but can Liverpool wait?

• Liverpool have submitted plans to permanently close Anfield Road to vehicles at all times, that’s not going to be popular with local residents (Liverpool Echo)

OPINION: Right-back dilemma in summer window

Jeremie Frimpong‘s injury scare on international duty leaves Liverpool with a decision to make in the summer with both the Dutchman and Conor Bradley unable to stay fit, writes Joanna Durkan:

“At 22, Bradley has missed 42 games across the last two seasons to date, equivalent to 40.7 percent of Liverpool’s matches in that time, rising to nearly 50 percent in the current campaign.

“He has been incredibly unlucky with some of his injuries, but the lack of reliability puts any hopes of being the long-term first choice under serious threat.

“Frimpong, meanwhile, has missed 40.4 percent of the season so far, which has seen Arne Slot have to turn to the likes of Dominik Szoboszlai, Joe Gomez, Curtis Jones and Wataru Endo in the position.”

• Chelsea players have been described as unimpressed when it comes to Enzo Fernandez’s leadership during their run of defeats, with claims he’s berated his teammates. They’re due for a collapse, aren’t they (Telegraph)

• FIFA is charging up to $10,990 (£8,333) to be at the World Cup final this summer. It’s in no way surprising, but it’s beyond ridiculous now. I’d want that to guarantee a ticket for the next 55 tournaments (BBC)

It was his 65th and final goal for Liverpool.
