Liverpool travel to Manchester City in the Emirates FA Cup quarter-finals on Saturday, with Alexis Mac Allister absent from training after international duty.
Mac Allister featured in Argentina’s 5-0 friendly win over Zambia in the United States in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

He assisted Argentina’s second goal, scored by Lionel Messi, just before half-time. Mac Allister was substituted in the 53rd minute, with Rodrigo De Paul coming on in his place
The 27-year-old surprised fans by shaving his head during the recent international break. On Thursday, he was seen in a Liverpool gym session but did not take part in full training with his teammates.
The Argentina international played a key role in the Reds’ 2024-25 Premier League title win and has made 45 appearances this season, scoring five goals and providing five assists.
After the Man City game, Liverpool’s focus will turn to a Champions League quarter-final against Paris Saint-Germain, with the first leg set for April 8 in Paris. The tie offers Mac Allister a chance to rediscover top form after a mixed campaign.
Off the pitch, the club must decide whether to begin contract talks amid strong interest from Real Madrid. Mac Allister has confirmed that no formal discussions over an extension have taken place.
The midfielder stated: “First of all I want to congratulate Ryan [Gravenberch, on a new contract] because it is really good for him and he deserves it.
“He’s been a really important player for us in the season that we won the Premier League, which is not easy at all. So congratulations to him. In terms of me, we are not in contract talks but I am not in a rush and that is only a fact.”
Meanwhile, Jeremie Frimpong has handed Liverpool an injury boost ahead of their FA Cup clash with Man City, while Alexander Isak has stepped up his recovery.
Frimpong was taken off shortly after coming on for the Netherlands against Ecuador, prompting concern, but his substitution was only precautionary. He trained with the squad at Kirkby on Thursday. Mohamed Salah and Federico Chiesa also returned to training after recent absences.
Isak, meanwhile, joined full team training for the first time since suffering a broken leg and ankle injury against Tottenham before Christmas. Alisson Becker remains sidelined as he continues to recover from a hamstring problem.
