Aaron Wan-Bissaka makes World Cup history with DR Congo
Wan-Bissaka helped DR Congo qualify for the 2026 World Cup in the international break, with a critical victory over Jamaica.
They beat Bermuda 2-0 in a friendly last Wednesday before defeating The Reggae Boyz 1-0 in Mexico on Tuesday.
Wan-Bissaka’s former Manchester United teammate Axel Tuanzebe scored the winning goal 10 minutes into extra time.
The result ended DR Congo’s 52-year wait to return to the World Cup, with their last appearance in West Germany in 1974.

It is such a big achievement to make the World Cup that Congolese authorities declared Wednesday a public holiday.
Wan-Bissaka posted some celebratory images on his Instagram account with the caption: “history was made.”
Ex-Man Utd star Rashford responded with a heart emoji, while Summerville commented: “My boy.”
Wan-Bissaka also received congratulations on his post from club teammates El Hadji Malick Diouf and Kyle Walker-Peters.
Meanwhile, past and present Premier League players Anthony Elanga, Wilfred Zaha and Yannick Bolasie replied too.
DR Congo can now look forward to Group K matches against Portugal, Colombia and Uzbekistan at the World Cup.
