Calvert-Lewin a West Ham doubt but still in World Cup running, says Farke

Daniel Farke insists Dominic Calvert-Lewin's World Cup dream is not over, but injury could stop the striker furthering his case in Sunday's FA Cup quarter-final.

The Leeds United striker earnt his first England cap in nearly five years as a substitute in last week's friendly against Uruguay, but missed a great chance and was released ahead of Tuesday's game.

"It would be a big motivation for him," said manager Farke. "It was always a plan for him after the first game to travel back due to the fact players like (Harry) Kane were rested for the first game.

"He has played several minutes, he also had one or two really good chances. I would have wished he would have finished one but I'm pretty sure it's not you finish a chance and you're on the plane or you miss it and you're not.

"If he delivers a strong finish to the season with many good games and hopefully also a few goals and a few assists, then he has chances.

"He should grab his chance with both hands with top performances for us in the run-in."

Depending on a hamstring scan, Calvert-Lewin could miss the chance to take Leeds to Wembley on Sunday, but Farke downplayed the seriousness.

"Hopefully it's just a minor problem," he said. "When there's lots of travelling and different circumstances, sometimes it happens. On Wednesday, during training he felt a little problem with his hamstring and didn't want to risk anything.

"On Thursday, we've decided to scan him just as a precaution. I hope that he's back in team training on Friday.”
