Yoane Wissa attracting interest from Fenerbahce – Report

It’s safe to say that things haven’t quite gone to plan for Yoane Wissa after he finally got his dream move to Newcastle United in the summer.

The DR Congo striker pushed all summer to get his move from Brentford to Tyneside, even going on strike at The Bees to make the deal happen.

It took all summer and cost Newcastle a ridiculous £55 million to sign the 29-year-old, only for him to pick up a bad injury less than a week later in an international match.

Wissa missed around five months of the season, and due to Newcastle’s hectic fixture schedule, never really got into any proper training sessions with the team before being thrown into the side.

The former Brentford star scored the most non-penalty goals in the Premier League last season, but has only netted once for the Magpies in the league this season.

Recently, he can’t even get in the side, having to make do with the briefest of cameos at the most.

Despite that, Newcastle aren’t thought to be looking to offload Wissa in the summer, which could come as a disappointment to Turkish side Fenerbahce, who, according to SPORX (via The Shields Gazette), are keeping tabs on him ahead of the transfer window.

Newcastle would have to take a huge hit to move Wissa on this summer, given his £55 million price tag and the fact that he signed a four-year contract. We’d have to get around £40 million for him just to wipe off the amortisation costs, and that’s without taking wages into account.

Fenerbahce could try for a cheeky loan move, and with Newcastle searching for new strikers this summer, there could be a small possibility they’d be open to it.

In all honesty, though, we don’t see the sense in loaning out a striker when we’re trying to bring another one in as cover. The whole reason we’re looking for a striker this summer is because we need more options, so letting one of the options we have head out on loan doesn’t make sense.

If we could recoup our losses via a sale, then maybe we could see that happening as it would give more financial headroom to get a replacement.
