Liverpool are ready to return to action after the international break - and what a run of fixtures await them!

First up is a FA Cup quarter-final showdown at Manchester City on Saturday (12.45pm kick-off) followed by a Champions League reunion with holders Paris Saint-Germain in Wednesday's quarter-final first leg in the French capital (8pm kick-off).

With a crucial Premier League clash at home to fellow European chasers Fulham on Saturday week (5.30pm kick-off) following that huge double header, it could be a big seven days in the Reds' season.

And after of those games, our Liverpool fans' jury return to have their say.

Each week feels important as the season hits the final sprint. But this week feels big. It feels big for our fortunes this year. It feels big for Arne Slot It’s a week that could determine his Liverpool future, a future which is hanging by a thread. A win against Man City and PSG potentially alters the managerial optics.

Slot needs big performances this week. Although this team is brimming with talent, we have seldom seen it this year. After such a reassuring season last year, Slot’s credentials as our leader have been anything but reassuring this year. Our season now stands on the edge of a cliff - will we fly or fall?

Slot needs star quality, and he will have been pleased to see Alexander Isak return to training. It is difficult to see how Isak returns to the starting line-up any time soon, but even if he is not fit enough to start, to have him to bring on for the last 15 minutes in a game is a formidable and enviable option. Those who doubt Isak’s quality are misguided; he is a sensational talent, and he has all the ingredients to be a Liverpool great.

In Isak’s absence, Slot will be looking to more familiar Liverpool faces. Mohamed Salah turns up in big games. He has the star quality which turns fortunes; although his light has dimmed this year, surely there is enough star quality in him to give Liverpool the spark and fire that they will need in the mammoth games on the horizon.

Even the most optimistic Liverpool fans will have found it hard to rally themselves at times this season. It’s been a campaign riddled with false dawns and setbacks, yet still we find ourselves in a position where there’s still plenty to play for.

We know that the Reds can always deliver big performances in cup completions even though the odds might look somewhat unfavourable against Man City and PSG. Yet with Alexander Isak back in training and Mohamed Salah fit, you can’t help but feel our lads will have a spring in their step as we look to finish the campaign with fight and flourish.

I think we have every reason to be hopeful particularly if we can put some positive performances together in what truly looks like a season-defining week ahead. Up the Reds!

After the change in tempo that comes with an international break, we head into the exciting intensity of the club season’s run-in from this weekend. It’s a time that still has plenty of potential for Liverpool, even if it’s in a different way to a year ago. Hit our best stride of the campaign from here, and the rewards could be immense.

There have, of course, still been significant developments within the interlude – among them, the announcement of the ticket price rises for the next three seasons. Subsequent discussions have, logically, been multifaceted – there is so much context, so many points to consider.

A rise of some kind is not a wholly implausible move, but neither does it appear a necessity – especially in this form. Strong responses have been offered by the likes of the LFC Supporters Board and Spirit of Shankly. Clubs do often have a fine balance to strike but the possible precedents set by, and implications of, last week’s announcement risk contributing to incremental, perhaps irretrievable, depletion of the lifeblood and cultural fabric of Liverpool FC.

Back to the run-in. Mohamed Salah’s departure at the end of the season can hopefully act as a galvaniser, while Alexander Isak rejoining team training is further reason for encouragement.

With trips to Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain in the coming days, additional dimensions could prove invaluable.
