Liverpool “remain in contact” with the agents of RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande over a move to Anfield this summer, according to a new update.
Mohamed Salah has officially confirmed that he is leaving the Reds at the end of the season, writing a touching message to the supporters ahead of his exit:
“Hello, everyone. Unfortunately, the day has come. This is the first part of my farewell. I will be leaving Liverpool at the end of this season. I wanted to start by saying that I never imagined how deeply this club, this city, these people, would become part of my life.
“Liverpool is not just a football club. It’s a passion, it’s a history, it’s a spirit. I can’t explain in words to anyone not part of this club. We celebrated victory. We won the most important trophies, and we fought together through the hardest time in our life. I want to thank everyone who was part of this club throughout my time here, especially the teammates, past and present.”
Liverpool now have the unenviable task of finding the perfect replacement for Salah, with Diomande one option who has been linked with them of late.
Taking to X, Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg has now provided a fresh update, saying contact between the Reds and the attacker’s agents is ongoing:
“RB Leipzig are planning to reward Yan Diomandewith a new deal and performance-based pay rise, without adding a release clause. RB want to keep their 19 y/o gem for another season, but would consider offers starting at €100m. Liverpool are closely monitoring him and remain in contact with his agents.”
Can Yan Diomande be Mo Salah’s heir at Liverpool?
Replacing Salah will be close to impossible, considering he is one of the best players of his generation, but it is easy to see why Liverpool like him so much.
Still just 19, the Ivory Coast international has impressed with his talent and end product for Leipzig, already registering 17 goal contributions in only 26 appearances, as well as being hailed as “unbelievable” by scout Jacek Kulig.
Diomande can shine on both flanks, so he could also be seen as competition for Cody Gakpo, who has struggled this season, and there are still so many years for him to hone his game.
The fact that contact is ongoing can only be a good thing, suggesting Liverpool see the Ivorian as a wonderful option, and if he can have half the career that Salah has, he would be a great signing.
