Newcastle United target Folarin Balogun
Newcastle United are very keen on bringing AS Monaco’s Folarin Balogun to the Premier League in the summer transfer window.
Last summer, Newcastle United sold Alexander to Liverpool for a British record fee and added Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa to Eddie Howe’s squad.
The Germany international has 10 goals and five assists and failed to score a league goal this year.
Wissa made his Newcastle United debut in December as an injury forced him to spend close to four months on the sidelines. Earlier this week, he talked about struggling to get back in rhythm after the setback.
The 29-year-old DR Congo international has scored one goal and failed to contribute an assist from 13 Premier League matches this season.
Newcastle United transfer target
Eddie Howe’s side aren’t fully convinced of the former Brentford man and are looking for a new striker.
That’s according to Jeunes Footeux, who report Newcastle United have set their sights on AS Monaco’s Folarin Balogun.
He joined the Ligue 1 side from Arsenal for €30m in August 2023, after playing 10 games for the Emirates club.
Balogun has 27 goals and 13 assists from 84 matches for Monaco. This includes 15 goals and five assists from 36 matches this season.
The USA international’s Ligue 1 stats this season are as follows:
Appearances: 23
Starts: 19
Total minutes: 1,643
Minutes per game: 71
Expected Goals: 10.32
Expected Assists: 1.33
Big chances missed: 10
The player shares a close bond with his manager, Sébastien Pocognoli. At the same time, his performances have seen Premier League sides take notice.
Newcastle United are the only one named and are completely convinced about signing him in the summer. Pocognoli’s side, for their part, are willing to open negotiations at €40m.
Although the Tyneside club are keen, it isn’t clear whether they are ready to meet the fee demand.
Contract, value and agent info
Folarin Balogun will have two years left on his contract at the end of this season. His value, as per Transfermarkt, is €30m.
British agency Elite Project Group, headed by agent Emeka Obasi, manage the Newcastle United target. Their client list several players, including Arsenal stars Bukayo Saka and Chelsea duo Jamie Gittens and Roméo Lavia. That shows clear experience of Premier League negotiations and working with English clubs.
