Newcastle join race to sign Folarin Balogun – Report

**It’s another day and another striker linked with a summer move to Newcastle United.**

The Magpies are desperate to add another striker option to the ranks this summer after the struggles of Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa, and the uncertainty around the future of enigma Will Osula.

Goals have been hard to come by for Newcastle this season despite forking out £124 million on fresh attacking talent in the summer, and as a result, the club is reluctant to head into the new season with the same options it had for this one.

There have been plenty of names linked already, but we expect to see plenty more before a line is drawn under this chapter.

Today, French outlet [Jeunes Footeux](https://www.jeunesfooteux.com/AS-Monaco-un-chouchou-de-Pocognoli-convoite-par-Newcastle_a79623.html) has claimed that Newcastle are eyeing Monaco’s USA international striker Folarin Balogun.

Ex-Arsenal forward Balogun has been immense since he switched London for Monaco. This season alone, he’s amassed 20 goal contributions in 36 games in all competitions, which includes five goals in the Champions League.

The 24-year-old is thought to be valued by Monaco at €40 million (£35 million), which doesn’t seem out of reach for Newcastle, especially for a striker in such red-hot form.

While it would be hard to really say Balogun has Premier League experience, given he only played 10 times for Arsenal, he’s at least had a taste of what the English game is like. He’s also got a goal every other game in the Champions League, so he’s definitely got something about him.

This one is ticking a lot of boxes for us. Age, price, form. There must be a red flag somewhere. The only one we can think of right now is the source of the story being a French outlet that could be using Newcastle to try to drum up interest on someone’s behalf, whether it be Monaco or, more likely, Balogun’s agent.

He could be a player to pay close attention to at the World Cup this summer when he’s in action for the USA.
