CM: Liverpool winger looking for escape amid difficulties – Milan open to Allegri reunion

Federico Chiesa’s future remains a mystery, though it is possible that he could leave Liverpool and return ‘home’ to Serie A.

His failure to return to the national team for the World Cup play-offs was just the latest negative incident in a season to forget for the former Fiorentina and Juventus star, who is increasingly less central to Liverpool’s plans.

As per Calciomercato.com, after a difficult first year Chiesa has failed to climbs the pecking order under head coach Arne Slot, who has given him very little playing time in these two Premier League seasons. So, it’s very likely he and the Reds will part ways in June.

A return to Italy?

In addition to his difficulties at Liverpool, Chiesa has now also found himself on the fringes of the national team. After an initial call-up for the World Cup play-offs, the 28-year-old withdrew, immediately leaving the training camp at Coverciano.

Coach Gennaro Gattuso himself then gave the reason: “Chiesa showed up, but he had some problems and we decided there was no point in him staying. Players’ minds aren’t all the same and if someone is hesitant, I have to make choices. I can convince them for a while, but if someone isn’t feeling well, you can’t insist too much.”

Meanwhile, Slot said in a press conference: “Federico Chiesa is back here after missing out on the Italy international. The boy has been training with us and will be available for Saturday’s FA Cup match away to Manchester City.”

This summer, new opportunities could arise for Chiesa, with Roma, Napoli, Milan and Juventus among the teams keen on bringing him back to Italy. The Anfield club are open to a permanent sale for a figure of €15-20m, the source adds.

It is worth keeping in mind that Massimiliano Allegri knows Chiesa well from their time at Juventus and he can play either in a front two or as a winger, while the player himself admitted that he supported the Rossoneri growing up.
