Outgoing Manchester United star Casemiro will leave the club this summer with a heavy heart. The Brazilian star and his wife, Anna Mariana, have spoken about their love for United ever since the midfielder arrived in 2022.

The 34-year-old is set to depart when his contract expires. He joined United in a deal worth up to £70million from Real Madrid and has spent the last four years in Manchester, making more than 150 appearances and winning two major trophies.

This season, Casemiro has been one of United's most consistent performers. He has missed just two games and impressed under interim boss Michael Carrick. The player and his wife will no doubt miss United. Here, we take a closer look at the pair.

Wife's tears

Casemiro admitted his wife cried when sections of United fans were pleading for him to remain at Old Trafford for one more season. During United's 3-1 win against Aston Villa, supporters sang "one more year, one more year Casemiro" after he opened the scoring.

"Well, honestly I feel so happy, especially for the affection from the fans, and the respect they have for me," Casemiro said. "So, it's just gratitude for this love, it is so exciting.

"I am hoping not to cry on my last day, as it is such a beautiful experience. My wife already cried, the other day, when the fans were asking for one more year. So, I just want to enjoy it, enjoy all the moments and I will be a United fan for the rest of my life."

Casemiro had a clause in his United contract that would have led to a one-year extension if he started 35 Premier League fixtures in his final season at the club, a tally that he remains on course to reach. However, he and the club reached an agreement in January to waive the clause.

Dig at Roy Keane

The midfielder endured a tough period under former United boss Erik ten Hag. He was famously hauled off at half-time after a disastrous display in the 3-0 defeat to Liverpool in September 2024.

His performance was slammed by fans and pundits, such as United great Roy Keane. The ex-United captain fumed at half-time on Sky Sports, saying: "Mistakes from Casemiro for all his experience. They are all over the place. Casemiro must be aware of what’s around him.”

Anna Mariana then hit back at the criticism by posting a photo of the former Real Madrid star's glittering trophy cabinet. Decked from top to bottom with silverware, the glistening cabinet shone a light on the three La Liga and five Champions League titles Casemiro has won, among others.

Annoying his wife

Anna Mariana has often rushed to her husband's defence over the years. However, speaking in October 2022, Casemiro revealed that his behaviour around the house actually "annoys" his significant other.

The Brazilian claimed that his attention to detail means he often re-watches his performances from previous games, several times over, to his better half's frustration.

"I look at them a lot and I enjoy it," he said. "I think I watch through my games three or four times over. Yes, it's the way you learn and develop by correcting errors. I think it's key to continue evolving in football.

"I watch a lot of football. I love it. My wife gets a bit annoyed, as there is only football on at home! Football is my passion, it's my soul and I believe that's been the key to my success. I love football. I love watching football."

Past struggles

Casemiro and Anna Mariana's bond will have been forever strengthened following the pair's move from Brazil, where he featured for Sao Paulo, to the Spanish capital.

Upon his emotional farewell to Madrid after agreeing to join United, the Brazil international opened up about the initial struggles he and his wife faced.

A tearful Casemiro said: "When I got here [Madrid], my wife and I knew nobody. We were alone and we built our life story here in this city together.

"I arrived at the reserve team and I had to fight my way to the first team. I learned the values of this club, while working at their academy, to be the purest part of football."
