Leeds will face arch rivals Manchester United in the next game of their Premier League survival bid in an evening kick-off on Monday, April 13 at Old Trafford - one week on from Sunday’s FA Cup quarter-final at West Ham.
But ten days ahead of Leeds and Manchester United’s first teams locking horns, the two club’s under-21s sides served up an aperitif as they did battle in a Premier League 2 clash at Thorp Arch on Good Friday afternoon.
Experienced goalkeeper Alex Cairns started in goal for Leeds whose line up also featured a start for Charlie Crew - already capped for the Wales national side.
The likes of Rhys Chadwick and Sam Chambers also lined for Leeds but the Red Devils raced into a 2-0 lead through a brace from Jack Fletcher.
His double had the visitors 2-0 up at the break, after which Leeds began a comeback as Louie Philpott netted eight minutes after the hour mark.
The young Red Devils, though, ultimately left with a 2-1 victory as Leeds under-21s saw their penultimate home league match of the season end in defeat.
