Aston Villa have been boosted in their interest in Oscar Mingueza with reports in Spain saying the defender’s contract talks have stalled.

La Voz De Galicia, which covers Celta Vigo, say the La Liga outfit has ‘not heard anything’ since the full back changed agents – and as his current deal ticks down.

The 26-year-old, who can play either on the left or right, is set to be out of contract in the summer and the story says ‘his time to leave has come’.

Villa’s ears will certainly prick up at that, having tracked the former Barcelona trainee as far back as January 2025 when they instead opted for Andres Garcia.

Mingueza has made 136 appearances for Celta, scoring seven goals and providing 15 assists, including 36 this term. It has been reported Villa watched him in Celta’s 2-1 win over Girona just last month.

As a versatile free agent the former Barcelona trainee could be exactly what Villa are looking for in the summer as they look to add depth for what they hope will be a Champions League campaign – but do so on a budget.

Villa currently have Matty Cash as clear first choice on the right, with Lucas Digne and Ian Maatsen sharing time on the left. Garcia has made only four Premier League appearances off the bench.

Juventus are also credited with an interest after Celta made their ‘best possible’ offer but also having signed a potential replacement in Alvaro Nunez.
