Newcastle United handed double Premier League boost with official announcement - Man Utd will…

A Newcastle United duo have won two Premier League awards following the 2-1 win over Manchester United at St James’ Park.

Newcastle United striker William Osula won the Premier League’s goal of the month award for March for his ‘sublime’ winner against Manchester United.

Striker William Osula has been awarded the Guinness Goal of the Month for his "sublime" winner against Manchester United.

The 90th-minute solo effort secured a dramatic 2-1 victory for the Magpies in a match where they were controversially reduced to ten men.

The Premier League confirmed the win with an official announcement, describing the strike as a "long run and sublime finish" to win the game. Osula’s path to the award saw him win the ball deep in the Newcastle half before driving down the right wing, cutting inside, and curling a stunning effort into the net for his third goal of the campaign.

Notably, Osula is the first Newcastle player to receive the accolade since Alexander Isak, whose goal against Liverpool in December 2024 previously took the honours.

Ramsdale recognised for vital stop v Man Utd

Aaron Ramsdale also secured the Save of the Month award. Ramsdale, who has recently displaced Nick Pope in the starting XI, was recognised for a crucial stop from Joshua Zirkzee that occurred just moments before Osula’s winning goal.

The awards stem from a highly-charged 2-1 victory over the Red Devils. Newcastle initially took the lead through an Anthony Gordon penalty before being pegged back by a Casemiro header.

The task was made harder when the Magpies were reduced to ten men after Jacob Ramsey was shown a second yellow card for simulation. Despite the disadvantage, Howe's side held firm before Osula’s late winner.

Eddie Howe misses out

Following the victory and another win against Chelsea, Eddie Howe was a surprise nominee for the Manager of the Month award. His nomination came days after a 2-1 Tyne-Wear derby loss to Sunderland, a result that Howe admitted was "unacceptable".

Ultimately, the managerial honour went to Arsenal’s Mikel Arteta, who maintained a perfect record throughout March.

With seven games remaining to salvage a season, these individual honours provide a rare boost for a squad that hasn’t had too much to cheer about this season.
