Dominik Szoboszlai ‘eager’ to extend contract & Alisson speaks out – Latest LFC News

Dominik Szoboszlai‘s Liverpool future has been brought back into focus with claims he is ‘eager’ to extend his contract, while Alisson has spoken out about his latest injury.

Dominik Szoboszlai contract: Negotiations continue

Liverpool have their hands full when it comes to squad planning, but Szoboszlai’s future is towards the top of the to-do list.

Negotiations over a new contract are ongoing, and the *Echo*‘s Paul Gorst reports that “it is understood he is eager to extend his stay for the long term.”

“I love being here,” Szoboszlai said in the interview. “My family is happy, I love the club, I love the fans, I love to play for this club and that is it.”

The 25-year-old’s contract expires in 2028, but we have come to realise how important it is that the club are proactive and settle talks before contracts enter their final year.

Szoboszlai is in his prime, and it is key the club do what it takes to keep him at Anfield for the long-term – the club’s sponsors will surely be just as keen!

LFC News: Alisson clarifies injury, Isak returns & Bradley latest

• Alisson has offered some clarity on his injury situation, insisting he “didn’t suffer a new injury” and that the plan is to return at the end of April – why does he always miss the big ones?

• Conor Bradley has taken the next step in his recovery from a serious knee injury, seen undertaking strength training in his leg this week – hopefully a full pre-season to come!

• Jurgen Klopp has conceded the timing of his return to Anfield was awkward considering the pressure on Arne Slot. He didn’t want to jinx it when we were winning either, so there’s never quite the perfect time

• Alexander Isak can take his place on the bench at Man City, but Slot has insisted he will not start and only a “few minutes” are expected, though the possibility of extra time could complicate that

ANALYSIS: Mo Salah’s decline & Slot’s role

Mo Salah‘s decline was expected – nobody can outrun time – but his sharp drop in performances has been arguably exacerbated by Arne Slot‘s tactical decisions, writes Sam Millne:

“In previous years, Liverpool’s wide men were renowned for their clever runs from out to in, finding space between full-back and centre-half before cutting inside to shoot or pass with their stronger foot.

“Salah’s average positioning has noticeably been wider this season; Opta told us the attacker has had 15 percent of his touches in the penalty box compared to 20 percent last year.”

Football News: Fernandez dropped, Arteta defence & Guardiola’s praise for Salah

• The update on Enzo Fernandez is that he will not play either of Chelsea‘s next two fixtures. Liam Rosenior has declared a “line was crossed in terms of our culture.”

• Italy and Gennaro Gattuso have parted ways after they failed to qualify for the World Cup again. They only came good when it was to deny England a trophy, seems apt! (FIGC)

• Mikel Arteta has sought to defend 11 players withdrawing from international duty last month, saying “you can judge afterwards” as to who plays this weekend. We’ll assume it’ll be at least 8

• Pep Guardiola has paid tribute to Mo Salah following his exit news, lauding the winger as “one of the greatest” in history – they were nice words, to be fair!

Liverpool FC: On this day

A game for the ages and one which is enshrined into club and Premier League history was played on this day in 1996. The match we speak of? Liverpool 4. Newcastle 3.

The stakes were high and in just 97 seconds, Robbie Fowler had Liverpool’s opener. But within the space of 15 minutes, the tables had turned as Newcastle went 2-1 up.

Fowler was on the scoreboard again before Newcastle quickly struck back, leaving the game precariously placed at 3-3, until Stan Collymore lifted the roof off Anfield with the winner.

Collymore wheeled away in unbridled joy, while Kevin Keegan was slumped over in his seat as he watched his team fall to defeat in what is now an iconic image.

It was a breathless 90 minutes, one of the best in the competition’s history.
