Will Osula and Aaron Ramsdale win Premier League awards for Newcastle United heroics

Newcastle United fans may want to forget about March after the sour note on which it ended, but there was some good in there before the end.

We don’t need to go over what happened in the last two games of March; we’re all still stewing in it, but it is worth remembering that in that very same month, we beat Chelsea and Manchester United.

Newcastle also drew with Barcelona, which felt like an achievement until we went to their house a week later.

In that Manchester United game, though, we saw some moments of pure magic, and those moments have been rewarded.

Aaron Ramsdale has picked up the Coca-Cola Save of the Month award for his 89th-minute tip over the bar from a fizzing Joshua Zirkzee shot.

Ramsdale made some outstanding saves in that game, but that was undoubtedly the pick of the bunch.

It wasn’t just the quick reflexes and the athleticism, but that save resulted in a corner for Manchester United from which Newcastle regained possession, went up the other end and scored a 90th-minute winner.

Which brings us nicely onto Will Osula, who won the Guinness goal of the month for that very finish.

A long run and sublime finish to win the game in the 90th minute for @NUFC 😱

Newcastle played out of the defence to Kieran Trippier, who spotted Will Osula making a run down the wing. Trippier’s ball looked to be going out, but Osula was able to get to it and keep it in, almost falling over in the process.

Somehow keeping his balance, the Danish Under 21 international cut inside, flat-footed two Man United defenders and then curled a stunning effort into the far post. It was simply sensational.

There aren’t many things more satisfying than scoring a last-minute winner against Manchester United, especially when the referee sent one of your players off for absolutely nothing, but to do that with such a stunner, that’s a sweet treat I’d gladly risk diabetes for.
