Rob Edwards believes Hugo Bueno has ‘grown and matured’ after becoming a first team regular for Wolves.
The academy graduate, who was sent on loan to Feyenoord last season, has battled with David Moller Wolfe for the left-wing-back spot this campaign.
But he has made the position his own under Edwards, who says the Spaniard has improved in all areas over time.
"He's been brilliant,” the head coach said.
"He probably found it a little bit frustrating at the beginning when Wolfe was in the team and he was playing.
"He had to bide his time and he worked incredibly hard, showed a good attitude and now and over the last couple of months, it's been his turn and then Wolfe's had to do the same.
"It's good, they've been pushing each other and both showing an incredible attitude. Both very reliable.
"I've been really pleased with Hugo's contribution. I think he's been very, very consistent.
"He's come up against some top wingers in recent weeks and shown really good defensive work and quality and he's got great energy and then gone forward really well for us as well.
"It's definitely a consistency thing. He's a real consistent performer.
"It's nice to hear the fans singing his name and getting behind him as well. I think that'll give him a big, big lift.
“It's nice, and the fact that he came through here, it's a big thing for him, a big thing for us. It's good.
"I think he's really grown and matured in the last few months and I'm really pleased. Hopefully, he can keep that going.”
Bueno’s general fitness has improved, while he has also avoided injuries for the most part, in his most consistent season yet.
"I think that's not just him, it's across the board,” Edwards said of Bueno’s fitness.
"We've definitely been arriving into the latter parts of games looking stronger as a team, so I think the players are in a better place.
"The position that he plays is a demanding one. We're asking a lot because we want him to try and get up and supply for us, but obviously then be at the right place to be able to defend as well.
"It is a difficult position.
"Then it's good when you have got the ability to be able to change if you need to for the last 10, 15, 20 minutes, either as a tactical thing or if that's purely a energy thing.
"He's been looking like he's right in the game and looks really strong towards those latter stages, so that's a big credit to him.”
