Opta makes emphatic ‘43%’ winning prediction ahead of Leeds showdown | West Ham News

For one last day the pundits and predictors are out in full force with their own opinions on West Ham United’s FA Cup quarter final against Leeds.

Seemingly each TV personality and former player has their own opinion based on past experience and club loyalties but the same cannot be said of OPTA’s so-called supercomputer: The software runs approaching 10,000 simulations to come out with its own prediction based on cold hard data.

And according to one of our opponent’s fan web sites, the result of all that data inputting is indeed emphatic.

Emphatic ‘43% West Ham win’ prediction

For according to theleedspress.com, whether it be home advantage, Leeds’ poor away form or just the Hammers’ recent uptick in results:

“The game is expected to be a close call, but according to the Opta Analyst Supercomputer, West Ham have a 43.4% chance of winning. Which will be very strange to Leeds fans, considering the only time these two teams met ended in a defeat for Nuno’s men. The Whites have a 29.9% chance and a draw stands at 26.7%.”

Much will depend upon the London stadium atmosphere – becoming West Ham’s twelfth man in previous cup exploits has transformed the arena into a true Hammers home. Whether the home crowd can do the same tomorrow and propel their team towards the semi finals with a solid 90 minutes of noise could be the deciding factor, especially if the game is close in the closing minutes.

Time to put all the division, board protests, season’s discontent and general malaise behind us for the remainder of the season and get behind the club in the most emphatic fashion possible.
