West Ham United manager Nuno Espirito Santo has not ruled out a potential injury return for former Leeds United attacker Crysencio Summerville ahead of Sunday’s FA Cup quarter-final clash with the Whites.

Summerville - who played 89 times for Leeds - has been sidelined with a calf injury for nearly three weeks, but is approaching a return.

Having scored five times in eight Premier League games before his setback, his return would be a big boost for the Hammers ahead of the run-in, although Santo is staying cautious.

“We’re all trying to get him back as soon as possible. We’re assessing him day by day, and seeing how he improves,” said the West Ham boss.

“We aren’t at the point [of making a decision] yet. There’s still one day to go, and then we’ll make decisions. We’re assessing all the players, especially some after the international break.”

Key centre-back Jean-Clair Todibo is touch and go for Sunday having also sustained a calf injury. As for Leeds, it seems unlikely that Dominic Calvert-Lewin will start the game having missed training on Thursday due to a hamstring complaint.

The striker has had scans on the muscle, which was hurt in Leeds training rather than away with England, as a precaution but the issue is not thought to be serious. Either way, Daniel Farke has said he will not risk starting those who are injury doubts amid the importance of the Premier League run-in.

Leeds defeated West Ham 2-1 back in October during what was Santo’s fourth game in charge. The 52-year-old is very respectful of Leeds, though believes Sunday’s contest will look a lot different to the one six months ago.

He said: “We know it’s going to be a tough game. Leeds are a good team, and they have their own ambitions, so it’s going to be a very intense match.

“We played them earlier this season, but I think that both teams have changed a lot since then. They have quality players, they play good football, and we know what to expect.

“We know we will have to be switched on to compete well, and hopefully we can get the result we would like.”
