Kieran Trippier says emotional goodbye as Newcastle United confirm summer exit

Kieran Trippier has today released a statement that confirms he will leave Newcastle United at the end of the season.

The former England international was perhaps the most pivotal signing of the PIF-era at Newcastle. The first player through the door for Eddie Howe and his pedigree and excitement to join the club when they were in such a poor position was a beacon for others to follow.

When Trippier arrived from Atletico Madrid for just £12 million, it sent a message to the World that Newcastle United weren’t messing around. His arrival paved the way for the likes of Bruno Guimaraes, Alexander Isak and Sandro Tonali to take a chance on the Tyneside club.

The ex-Tottenham man immediately established himself as a leader in the camp, and he was instrumental in pulling Newcastle out of the relegation scrap in that first season and has gone on to be a huge influence ever since.

Now at the age of 35, though, Trippier has issued the following statement to signal the end of his time at Newcastle.

“The time has come to leave this amazing club after four-and-a-half years. This is where I have felt most at home. It’s emotional, and I’m really going to miss it.

“I want to say a massive thank you to the supporters for all the support through the good and the bad times for me personally. You’ve always supported me, always stood by me.

“To my teammates, it’s going to be emotional. Its been an amazing journey with you guys. I’m going to miss you all, but to win a trophy with you guys was really, really special – the best of my career.

“And to the manager, Eddie Howe, all the coaching staff and the team behind the scenes, a massive thank you. The gaffer had the trust – twice – to sign me, gave me the opportunity to represent and captain this great club and most importantly, we managed to win a trophy.

“I’m going to miss everyone at the club. Thank you.”

Thank you, Tripps 🖤🤍

After four and a half years of incredible service to Newcastle United, we can confirm that Kieran Trippier will leave the club this summer when his contract expires.

There have been times when we have even called for Tripps to be axed. There was a spell last season when things weren’t going so well for him off the pitch and it affected his performances on it that we seriously thought it would be best that he was moved on then.

Thankfully, Eddie Howe stuck by him, and this season he has played a huge part in keeping Newcastle ticking. He has rolled back the years and played every three or four days to the best of his ability at the age of 35 and never complained once.

He was likely never going to play a huge role on the field next season, but there’s no doubt he will be missed in and around the club.

We wish Tripps all the best in whatever he does next, and we still hold out hope that he will one day return to the club in a coaching role or something similar.
