For anyone who pays attention , this season has been somewhat dominated by the situation between Mohamed Salah and Arne Slot, but the numbers still underline the scale of what we are watching.
Salah has delivered 12 goals and nine assists in 37 appearances across club and country this season, despite a difficult spell in December.
Across his Liverpool career, he has reached 255 goals in 435 games, placing him third on the club’s all-time scoring list, while also becoming the player with the most goal involvements for a single club in Premier League history.
The tension peaked after the 3-3 draw with Leeds in December 2025.
Salah had been benched for the third straight game and came on late.
Then came the interview where he said he was “being thrown under the bus.”
He added that he had “no relationship” with Slot and that “promises made in the summer” had been broken.
That moment changed everything.
Reports pointed to a fractured dressing room, even if both sides later maintained a professional truce.
Ahead of the FA Cup quarter-final against Manchester City, Slot addressed the situation with Salah amid reports that he was involved in the Egyptian’s decision to leave the club at the end of the season.
He said, “I look back at this season thinking that I made a few decisions that could have been better but I’m not talking about this specific thing with Mo.”
He continued, “I don’t regret many things I did during a little longer than one-and-a-half years together.”
”Again, the assumption that if he’s not playing that he wants to leave – that’s the assumption being made – then he would have left one-and-a-half years ago.”
Slot also pointed to past examples.
“I can remember West Ham away when he wasn’t playing (under Jurgen Klopp in 2024).”
”I wasn’t there. He didn’t decide to leave.”
”The assumption is that if you don’t play in these games and all of a sudden wants to leave, it is an assumption and maybe it is true or maybe it isn’t.”
”But history has shown is that he did not do that previously and had a great season after that.”
On the exit announcement, he added, “When things like this are announced to the outside world, I don’t think it’s a surprise for you to hear that there are a lot of discussions, talks going on between him, his agent, the club, me and him, before this comes out in the public.”
He remained firm on privacy.
“But, as I always said, and I’m not going to change on what has been said between the two of us, or between him and the club, that is something I’m not going to share.”
He concluded, “If he wants to share his reasons why he did it then it’s up to him, but that’s not up to me to speak for him.”
”I hear a lot being said about Liverpool and one of the funny things about Liverpool is that almost everything that is out there is not true.”
From the stands, it feels like the end of an era, even if the manager insists he has no regrets.
