Report: Newcastle star still a major target for Premier League rivals

Anthony Gordon’s future, like so many others, is up for debate at Newcastle United amid interest in Liverpool.

Two years after Liverpool almost signed Gordon from Newcastle United, the Reds could return with a fresh offer for the England star.

Was selling Isak in the manner they did where the wheels started to come off for PIF at Newcastle?

Gordon has a long-term contract at Newcastle – but Alexander Isak showed that such a thing means very little.

There’s no suggestion that Gordon will go to the lengths that Isak did to force a move away but the winger himself has admitted he was tempted by the idea of moving to Anfield two years ago.

It seems those on Merseyside do remain keen.

Gordon still a major transfer target for Newcastle

According to The Sun, Gordon remains a top target for Liverpool.

Despite a significant summer spend, the Reds are expected to overhaul their squad this summer following a disappointing defence of their Premier League title.

I know it sounds like sour grapes, but I’d take the money and run 😡

Mohamed Salah will need replacing and while Gordon wouldn’t be a direct heir to his throne, he’d strengthen their options out wide, while he is also capable of playing as a striker.

The report adds that he is a top target even despite Newcastle’s apparent £80million valuation.

How Newcastle feel about Anthony Gordon right now

Interestingly, The Daily Telegraph recently suggested that there has always been a suspicion that Gordon has had eyes on an exit ever since that potential move to Liverpool fell through in the summer of 2024.

Their report claimed that Newcastle could be willing to sell if a club were to offer £100million for the 25-year-old.

While no one would actively want to sell Gordon, that kind of money would surely be tempting.

Though Gordon has played well for Newcastle this season in difficult circumstances, even his most ardent supporter would surely admit that he’s never really recaptured the form that made him such a force to be reckoned with during the 2023-24 campaign.
