Jamie Carragher reckons just about everyone in the UK wants Hearts to win the Scottish Premiership title.

With the obvious exceptions of Celtic, Rangers and Hibs fans, the prospect of a new name on the trophy for the first time in 41 years seems to appeal to punters.

Derek McInnes' men lead Rangers by three points heading into the final round of games before the split and are the bookies' favourites to finish the campaign as champions.

Sky Sports pundit and Liverpool legend Carragher admits most of his focus is on what's happening in the English Premier League, but the story in Scotland is even cutting through the English exceptionalism.

And he's revealed that he's being asked about the Jambos at games most weeks as they stand on the brink of making history.

“It's probably the most exciting Premiership season we've probably, probably most of us have ever seen really.," he told The Overlap. "The reason I say go back to the mid-80s, I do remember that, the last game of the season. 86? And then the cup final the week after? That probably still gets spoken about a lot.

"For people like us who don't watch every week and you think, oh, 'it's a surprise Hearts are there'. It is a surprise, obviously.

“We have that discussion with Arsenal so much here and they're probably used to, you know, probably winning more titles than Hearts.

"It's funny, even me being in Liverpool and you're going to football, and obviously not got a keen eye on the Scottish stuff. But even people who I go to the game with or are into football, how did Hearts get on?

"It's like, it's almost like this desperation I think, around Britain. Certainly with people I speak, they want Hearts to win the league. It's a story, it's something different. It feels like everybody's rooting for you.”
